Suy Channtharong (Tharong) is Chief Executive Officer of Forte Insurance (Cambodia) Plc.
Tharong has over 17 years’ professional experience in the insurance industry. He started his career with Forte in 2005 and rose up the ranks in the Underwriting department, gaining expertise in sales, underwriting, reinsurance management, channel distribution management such as agents, brokers and banks, as well as other related tasks on risk control, loss control and more.
Tharong plays a key role in spearheading Forte’s work in agriculture insurance and mitigating the effects of climate change. He has collaborated with both public and private sectors to bring innovation through pilot tests on crop insurance such as Weather Index Crop Insurance (WICI), Soil Moisture Index and Area Yield Index. He also actively engages the agricultural community in Cambodia by presenting provincial dissemination workshops under the Climate Resilient Rice Commercialization Sector Development Program (Rice-SDP). He is a member of the Agricultural Insurance Working Group under ASEAN Natural Disaster Research Works Sharing Committee (ANDREWS).
Tharong holds a Master of Finance (MBA) from Charles Sturt University, Australia. He also has an Associateship (AMII) by Malaysian Insurance Institute and an Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ACII) from the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK. He was also awarded Winner – Young ASEAN Insurance Manager Award in 2021 and recently appointed Chairman of the 13th ASEAN Insurance Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
